The Collins Aerospace Datalinks Team in Annapolis, MD is looking for Senior Software Engineer to help design system and software solutions for our global aviation network. This network consists of ground stations deployed all around the world to provide on-ground and enroute VHF Digital Link (VDL) Mode 2 coverage for over 90% of the airline industry. The system is part of a critical infrastructure to support ACARS and ATN in which Air Traffic Control (ATC) and Aeronautical Operational Control (AOC) messages are exchanged.

Hybrid: This position requires 3days weekly onsite support. Onsite work is typically needed only during integration/system acceptance tests, customer field tests or product deployment phase for most projects.

• Perform full life-cycle software development including designing system and software solutions; supporting implementation, integration, acceptance testing and deployment.
• Support a large-scale global aviation network infrastructure with heavy design focus in redundancy, high availability, and security.
• Develop software for air-ground/ground-ground communication, positional data processing, transport/routing/link layer protocols, radio interfaces, hardware/OS customization, and remote deployment capabilities.
• Collaborate closely with system engineering/performance, network engineering, system acceptance and field operation teams.
• Provide support for product deployment, field monitoring, troubleshooting and operator trainings.
• Participate in lab/field integration and industry activities with avionics vendors, Satellite Service Providers, Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs) from domestic US , Europe and Asia.
• Utilize a mature ISO/SEI CMMI compliant process to produce all work products.
• Support project leadership, project planning, execution, monitoring and closure activities.

Required Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of prior relevant experience OR
• Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years’ experience OR
• In absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience is required
• Engineering/Other Technical Positions: Bachelor’s degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
• US Citizenship/Permanent Residence status

Preferred Experience:
• Experience with C++/Python, Object Oriented Design, Linux, Network Protocols, Data Communication, High Availability and Security.
• The ideal candidate will possess five (5) or more years of data communication or embedded system software development experience.
• The ideal candidate will have experience using disciplined development processes in a team environment.
• The ideal candidate will have excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
