Scrum Master and  Project Manager

To provide leadership and execution in Project and Scrum Master roles, ensuring application development projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet business and quarterly PI objectives. Projects vary in size and complexity, with teams typically consisting of 10-20 members, including developers, architects, technical process analysts, and quality testers. Current projects focus on transforming legacy applications to cloud platforms. The Scrum Master facilitates and drives the team and all Agile ceremonies.

Major Responsibilities 
  1. Project and Scrum Master Leadership 
    • Manage the full life cycle of Agile projects.
    • Lead cross-functional Agile project teams through the software delivery lifecycle.
    • Mentor and guide project teams to adhere to Agile/Scrum best practices and values.
    • Implement Lean processes to enhance quality output.
    • Facilitate all Scrum ceremonies (daily stand-ups, sprint planning, backlog grooming, retrospectives, and demos).
    • Apply work effort estimation techniques to forecast and report project performance.
    • Identify, remove, and escalate impediments.
    • Collaborate effectively with on-site, remote, and matrixed project team members.
    • Apply project management skills and best practices/tools to manage scope, schedule, cost, resources, issues/risks, procurement, communications, change, and quality.
    • Manage the transition to ensure adoption of change, build strong partnerships, and communication plans with all stakeholders and team members.
    •  Adhere to project delivery controls and processes, and actively prepare for/participate in structured project reviews.
    •  Function independently under broad guidelines from a resource manager.
  2.  Leading Projects 
    • Lead and engage single or cross-functional project teams for design, development, and implementation of application solutions.
    • Ensure alignment of all project roles and responsibilities, modifying as required, and ensuring accomplishment throughout the project.
    • Provide clear feedback, both routine (ad hoc discussions) and formal (reviews at key phases or related to Performance Reviews and Development Plans).
    • Monitor and measure staff/resource assignment results against project/task goals and accountabilities.
  3. Capability Development 
    • Evaluate emerging methods, industry best practices, and lessons learned to develop current and innovative project delivery practices and standards.
    • Drive continuous improvements to enhance speed to production releases.
    • Build a community for growing capability within ISD through personal development, mentoring, and teaching opportunities.
    • Participate in the interview process and engage in successful onboarding of new employees or contractors.
    • Mentor less senior employees or contractors.
  4. Communication 
    • Provide consistent, concise, relevant, reliable, and timely information to all appropriate internal and external audiences/stakeholders through various media.
    • Ensure accuracy of information to enable effective business decisions.
    • Frame communications in line with audience experience, background, and expectations; use terms, examples, and analogies meaningful to the audience.
    • Seek input from the audience, confirm understanding, and present messages in different ways to enhance understanding
  5. Perform Other Duties as Assigned 

Qualifications (Required unless otherwise noted):
  • Previous project leadership and execution experience, including initiatives with technology, processes, cross-functional teams, and external partners.
  • Experience with cross-functional teams that include third-party expertise, and the ability to build strategic and execution-focused plans and alliances.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply Project Management industry best practices, processes, and tools for effective project management (scope, schedule, cost, risk, resource, and issue management).
  • Experience in leading, guiding, and coaching professional staff.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to exercise initiative, produce desired results, and achieve objectives.
  • Ability to work and collaborate with all levels of management, staff, and vendors.
  • Ability to present findings and conclusions clearly and concisely.
  • Clear understanding of the systems development life cycle.
  • Ability to negotiate project scope with stakeholders, governance committees, and senior management
  • Partners with the Technical Product Owner and business area to plan the project scope and timeline.
  • Knowledge of Credit Union and Banking operations, processes, and procedures.
  • Certification as a Scrum Professional (CSP) and Scrum Master (CSM) is an asset.
  • PMP Certification preferred.
  • Experience working in banking/financial technology.
