Our Fortune 500 Aerospace client is looking for a Senior Network Engineer specializing in Network Management Systems who will support their team on a HYBRID basis in Annapolis, MD. This person will be responsible for delivering conceptual designs and technical architectures suited to a variety of product, customer and market needs. The candidate must be highly motivated, able to work in a collaborative team environment, as well as independently.
Note: Candidate must be US Citizen or Green Card Holder to be considered. Cannot work C2C. Candidates must also be local to the Annapolis, MD area to be considered.
Requirements:
  • Ability to commute to client’s headquarters in Annapolis, MD on a hybrid basis (3 days/wk)
  • Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM discipline)
  • 5+ years experience in network engineering in a large LAN/WAN environment
  • Previous experience administering a network management system
  • Experience with installation and operations of common Network Management System related applications such as: Cisco ICE, NNMi, Netcool, Splunk, SolarWinds, ManageEngine suite, Rationale tools, ScienceLogic, PRTG, Wireshark (or other packet analyzer)
  • Experience in WAN and LAN data collection protocols and concepts such as: SNMP v1/v2c/v3, polling/traps, Syslog, Netflow, JFlow, RMON, NBAR, IPSLA
  • Solid understanding of Network Capacity and Performance monitoring and alerting concepts including network jitter, latency, and utilization on applications
  • Familiarity with Linux/Unix
  • Familiarity with shell scripting languages such as Shell, Perl, and Python
  • Familiarity with daily operations of a data center or large NOC environment
  • Familiarity with Cisco networking products, configuration, and operations
  • Basic or advanced understanding of concepts and functions such as: IP routing and switching concepts and protocols (ICMP, UDP, TCP), IP subnetting and CIDR, NAT/PAT, Quality of Service (QoS), Ethernet, Security Concepts and Firewalls, HA concepts and application to server/network environments
  • Experience as mentorteam lead providing work direction and guidance to other personnel
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and maintain a productive and committed work effort, meeting deadlines and managing workload
  • Must be able to use independent judgment to make decisions in day-to-day job responsibilities the majority of the time, under general supervision
  • Must possess excellent communication skills with a demonstrated ability to articulate ideas in both business and technical terms (both verbal and written) -according to the audience, securing and sustaining their buy-in
  • Ability to take the initiative in driving technical discussions with the relevant parties and not wait to be invited
  • Ability to listen and be comfortable with their ideas being constructively challenged
  • Must be able to clearly depict and convey understanding of technical design using a wide range of design notations and artifacts, as applicable to the audience
  • Experience of using Visio and other contemporary tools for capturing system designs
  • Attention to detail and experience providing solutions and implementing infrastructures requiring 100% availability
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Active CCNA certification
  • Understanding of formal configuration management processes
  • Knowledge of the Airport and Air Transport Industry domains desirable
  • Career path that has provided exposure to and experience of employing a broad spectrum of network and infrastructure technologies
Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the primary technical lead on projects that contain moderate to highly complex environments
  • Lead and collaborate with other members of the Engineering team in the development of technical design solutions
  • Develop and implement project plans within budgetary, schedule and resource constraints
  • Capture, analyze, decompose and create requirements for systems, products and subsystems of moderate to high complexity
  • Use an interdisciplinary approach, focusing on customer needs and business requirements, to design, develop, document, test and maintain systems ranging from the straightforward to highly complex
  • Analyze and recommend contemporary and emerging technologies for deployment across the global network system architecture that may be applicable in addressing emerging product and market needs, taking into consideration the wider business context, risks, opportunities and constraints
  • Devise technical product roadmaps depicting the steps anticipated to migrate from the current state to the targeted future state
  • Deliver cost efficiencies by migrating the product portfolio over time towards a common target architecture where it makes sense to do so
  • Ensure that design and development work undertaken by others within the Engineering team is aligned to the approved technical architecture for a given project/program
  • Author, review and maintain documentation during all phases of the system design life cycle as appropriate and specified within documented process and procedure (Project Plans, Estimates, Requirements Documentation, Operational Scenarios, Design Documentation and Drawings, Sys Acceptance Test Plans, etc…)
  • Author, champion and have strong opinions on engineering design standards and best practices
  • Act as a mentor to more junior engineers in all areas of the systems development life cycle
