Data Center Technician

Our Fortune 100 credit union client is searching for a Data Center Technician to join their Plano, TX Data Center Team. 

Basic Purpose: Provide onsite technical support for our clients data center and equipment to ensure continuous availability. Perform troubleshooting, escalate issues, and resolve incidents and problems. Interface with various support teams and vendors to ensure appropriate resolution during system outages or periods of reduced performance. The role requires innovation, decision-making capability, and attention to detail, while also being able to follow directions effectively.


  • Perform network installation and maintenance (rack & stack, cabling, parts replacement).
  • Conduct server installation and maintenance (rack & stack, HDD, memory, CPU, RAID batteries, NICs).
  • Support data center staging, deployment, and logistics/asset management.
  • Participate in site builds and refreshes, ensuring current quality standards.
  • Handle data center hardware break/fix/move/add/change, including component replacement and hardware troubleshooting.
  • Execute extensive enterprise cable installation following industry cabling standards.
  • Provide adequate fiber and copper cable testing with minimal supervision.
  • Terminate Cat 6 cabling.
  • Create, update, and maintain rack elevations within a DCIM application (Nlyte).
  • Maintain inventory control and documentation on systems and components.
  • Troubleshoot and escalate incidents and problems.
  • Interface with other ISD areas and/or vendors to resolve outages or reduced performance issues.
  • Provide status reports on active or resolved issues.
  • Maintain, configure, and perform preventative maintenance on various network and data center equipment.
  • Utilize out-of-band management/KVM system (DSVIEW).
  • Manage power distribution units (PDUs) and load management.
  • Familiarize with NEMA and IEC power connectors.
  • Implement data center containment solutions.
  • Update and document procedures.
  • Write and maintain detailed site reference documentation.
  • Adhere to data center safety standards.
  • Lift equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Perform other tasks or duties as assigned or based on need.


  • Candidates are required to be able to work a W2 contract immediately. No sponsorship is offered. We can only accept GC Holders, GC EAD, TN Visa, or US Citizens.
  • MUST be able to work full time onsite in Plano, TX.
  • Intermediate data center/IT operations experience.
  • Proficiency with software and hardware tools used in data center functions.
  • Knowledge of LAN/WAN topologies, protocols, and standards.
  • Excellent communication and grammatical skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a 24/7 environment, participate in on-call rotation, and provide after-hours support.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work under pressure with urgent problems, deadlines, and changing priorities.
  • Familiarity with network cabling (types, distance limitations, testing, connectors, handling).
  • Familiarity with electrical and optical transceivers (SFP+, QSFP+, GLCT, DAC, CFP2, DWDM).
  • Knowledge of server hardware and components.
  • Understanding of electrical standards, connector types, power budget calculations, AC vs. DC, single-phase vs. three-phase.
  • Knowledge of data center design related to heat dissipation and air flow.
  • Meticulous and organized with cabling.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or equivalent combination of training, education, and experience.
  • Experience and technical training in WAN/LAN communications, including installing, basic configuring, and maintaining Cisco routers and switches.
  • Experience in presenting technical solutions and recommendations.
  • Knowledge of electronic principles for diagnosing and troubleshooting IT system issues.
  • Understanding of technical inter-relationships between software/hardware and desktop/LAN/Host systems.
  • Advanced skills in diagnosing and troubleshooting issues.
  • Advanced research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
